$5 Lettuce or $20 Lettuce

On another WB thread, I have been having an interesting discussion with another WB contributor. It is time to put the summation of this discussion into its own article.   On one hand, the WB contributor is rightly concerned about the social issues surrounding USA's illegal immigrants. On the other hand, he still wants food to be fairly inexpensive. These two social directives just don't work together.    Immigrants come to the USA because they know it is possible to (1) find work as illegals, (2) live a better life than what their home country could provide, and (3) keep under the radar of the American government for--probably--the rest of their life. The American government has clearly not enforced its own rules on immigration.   Illegal immigrants do work most Americans would not consider doing. Picking lettuce from …

I am the first to hate Marxism

I am a Romanian and I lived through those times. I was struggling these days to understand what an intellectual really is.. Those who don't understand that there might be a possibility that they don't know anything cannot be considered intellectuals by any stretch of the imagination. Even if t…

The 1%, the .01%

Ever wonder what does it take to be in the 1% or the .01% in the US.  Well I've done some research.  The average income needed to be in the 1% in the US is about $450K a year, with that varying state by state.  From a low of $226K to a high of $650K.  This group consists of occup…

Wealth of Nations Synopsis

Adam Smith’s landmark book, Wealth of Nations, published in 1776, is a 500-plus page treatise on economics, oft cited bur rarely read, except by economists and masochists like me.  If you can overlook Smith’s sing-song style, his tediousness, repetition, generalizations, vague and …

What was the "real" reason the electoral college was originally established? Slavery. In a direct election system, the South would have lost every time because a huge percentage of its population was slaves, and slaves couldn't vote. But an Electoral College allows states to count slaves, albeit at …

A man with a female body can conceive, give birth, and breast feed a baby. If advancements in medical technology made it possible for surgeons to transplant your head to the body of a man, would you then view yourself as a woman with a male body or would you then view yourself as a man?   Femal…

The intelligence of Democrats

Are horses smarter than a Democrat? I think in many cases that is correct. When I was raised it was on a small farm of 100 head of cattle and we also had two horses. My father used them for deer hunting in the fall. He would put a couple of handful of grain in a bucket and the horse would come…

WB has seen it's share of liberal males.  They are pretty easy to spot.  They are the ones who wisely parrot what the liberal schools and media sagely tell us is so, and when you disagree and point out reality and facts, proceed to call you a bigot, a homophobe, an Islamophobe, a sexist, a…
