Is Democracy Dead?

To me it appears that a small wealthy elite run the world. They buy the regime they want. In order for a candidate to be elected to office they have to attract enormous financial backing. This backing comes from political parties. The political parties are reliant on donors and in order to attract the donors have to produce policies that appease the donors, not the people. The political candidates are in effect vetted by the powerful and the public presented with candidates all of whom represent the establishment. Nobody else gets a look in. We always end up with a choice between the lesser of two evils and hence a sham democracy.Coupled with that, this small, wealthy elite own the media and use it as a propaganda machine to manipulate the views of the population. They also use bribes and lobbying to force through their desires agai…

Is Religion defunct in this modern day and age?

The three Abrahamic religions started up way back in the dawn of time – in a time of medieval ignorance. Judaism has its roots 3000 years ago. Christianity 2000 years ago. Islam 1500 years ago. They originated in nomadic tribes of Arabs in a small area of the Middle East renowned for it…

Does History Repeat Itself?

In the previous post in this series Let's Talk  I asked why, in the year 2017, do we still have unresolved gender issues. Why do women feel the need to band together to acquire that which is their due? Today, thanks to a post by JoAnn Chateau entitled , I am inspired to ponder the question o…

DEAR USA

Dear USA.   Remember when you were an ideal for the world ? I do remember, back in the Seventies. My parents who have been young in the Fifties, were big fans of you. You brought us the washing machine and the dryer for everybody (sorry, the Germans were faster with the Volkswagen, but …

THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG !

Hm. What do you see here ? Two or three ends ? Depends where you look from, right ?   The same thing happens when you say "I'm right, you're wrong". You look from the left, the other from the right, and - both are wrong - or right ?   Your "right", or point of view, is a combinatio…

Should the World Have Listened to Hitler?

This is an article I stumbled upon when doing some everyday research.  I found the style of this article (written by Hugo Ravn)  to be remarkably similar to mine, historically accurate and unbiased. This is a comprehensive piece that portrays an alternate view of t…

The Deep State Takes a Deep Hit

The deep state took a deep hit Monday. The deep state is comprised of the unelected, unaccountable, and irresponsible bureaucrats, regulators and legal authorities who bear little or no consequence nor suffer any hardship while they enforce policies that they feel are correct, in spite of legislatio…

As the world observes yet another global environment day, the events in the background paint a mixed picture. Dear Left: ENOUGH!

Dear LEFT:   We suffered through two terms of Obama & his outlaw administration. We lost our homes, we lost our health insurance, we lost our jobs. We’ve put up with your Nancy Pelosi’s, your Shelia Jackson Lee’s & your Dick Durbin’s. We watched as everything po…

Is overpopulation the biggest threat to the world?

Thomas Robert Malthus was a reverend from the eighteenth century who foresaw the effects of a huge burgeoning world population. He thought it would be a catastrophe. It would take room, use up resources and create famine and pestilence. He proposed that measures needed to be taken in order to restri…

Enough with the attacks on BIG business

A common theme that always seems to unite both sides of the political aisle is advocacy for small business.  From sweetheart loans to tax rebates, a lot of public assistance is available for small business.  When the government isn’t helping small business, it’s usually going o…

Paris Accord

With Trump's withdrawal from the Paris Accord--called a treaty everywhere else--I expected to see the gnashing of teeth and the rending of clothing here on WB.  But, alas, I am disappointed.  The collective heads of the world leaders have exploded.  It is the day, according to them, t…

Eisenhower's Death Camps Holocaust denier Meme #3

I'm feeling a bit lazy (again) so I thought I'd share with you something I wrote at Skeptics about "Eisenhower's Death Camps:   There is a subset of Holocaust denial that claims that the German POW camps set up in the Rhineland were "death camps" where, allegedly, a million German soldiers died…

Let's make the country great (again)

It seems that every time a politician wants to appeal to a certain section of the electorate he starts to prate on about "Let's make the country great again".   Over the years we have heard this many times, from many politicians.  So I think it is a statement that is worth thinking about. …

Most government pensioners were sold

It's sad but true but most government unions managed to extort pension benefits for their members that were empty promises.  Oh I know all the agreements they made are "legally binding", but it's just as unrealistic for today's government pensioners to expect their promises to be fulfilled…

A concept that has been steadily entering the public consciousness in recent years is that of Universal Basic Income (UBI) and the similar (but not synonymous) Negative Income Tax and Basic Capital Grant.
