What the Fu*k is going on in this World?

Dark times unfortunately seem to be coming these days. I’m almost afraid to check my social media feeds and watch the daily world news on TV. I’m somewhat afraid to fly the so-called ‘friendly skies.’ They almost charge you an arm and a leg to fly on a crowded airplane! Do they think they can just get away with treating customers however they want? With the latest technology and social media, it’s highly unlikely it will remain unknown to the public for very long. Commercial airlines really seem to be going through a crisis lately. Customers are even lashing out at one another through verbal and physical conflicts on flights! was almost kicked off their flight because they refused to keep their 2-year-old in their lap. The flight attendants said the…

A Thanks to the Jews

Over the past several years I've suffered from unemployment and underemployment.  I have finally started full time employment.  I have come to realize that there are many people in this country in deep trouble, impaled by a failing economy.  I've made my views well known here on WB. T…

AS LONG AS THEY'RE ALIVE

Yesterday at 8 pm I was outside and heard the birds singing. Bright sun, it's summer, here the sun goes down at 9 pm May to July. And the birds reminded me of my youth when my mother sent me to bed "Tomorrow's school !" at - 8 pm. I couldn't sleep, thinking of the daylight and the warm weath…

Going to the Movies.

Over the last week or so we have seen an Opera and two movies. We plan to see another film tomorrow. It is a good way to spend surplus time. Some people tell me they are always short of time. That is admirable. Wasn’t there a play  written about a man that had lost his job …

A Balanced Budget Amendment, Completely Different

I have a different thought on a Balanced Budget Amendment.  Any Balanced Budget Amendment ought to tie a balanced budget to asset sales and tie completed asset sales to a wage freeze on all federal employees until enough assets have been sold to offset the previous year’s deficit. &#…

In New York State we are seeing expanding policies to limit the purchase of cigarettes by youth from age 18 to age 21.  I don't agree with this tightening prohibition policy.  It should be left at 18, or even moved back to 16.  The policy creates black market consequences, and black m…

THE RISE OF ARTI

THE RISE OF ARTI   Sitting at the kitchen table sipping at the morning’s first injection of liquid life he heard a knock at the front door. Shaking the ever present cobwebs from his still sleeping brain he sighed and rose before the intrusion repeated. Trying to remember if he had been f…

The intransigence ofhate

I first wrote about the intransigence of hate in our society back , and then again . And I’m sorry to see the topic is just as relevant today. Consider, for example, Iowa congressman Steve King’s comment on Sunday: “We can’t restore our civilization with some…

On Islamic Banking

I was recently asked my opinion on Islamic banking. I know next to nothing about that. I am told that it is against Islamic principles to charge interest on loans. As a liberal, I take the position that people ought to be free to do whatever they want with their property. They should be free to len…

The Art of the Thrift

It all started when we went looking for some wall art.  My sister tipped me off that we could find decent wall art at thrift stores.  We bought some wall art at Hobby Lobby and other such places.  It's not expensive there costing $35, $70, or $100 or so a pop, but when one buys a lot…

These surveys show that the total mass of flying insects collected has declined by almost 80% in this time. Tho…
