Let's make the country great (again)

It seems that every time a politician wants to appeal to a certain section of the electorate he starts to prate on about "Let's make the country great again".   Over the years we have heard this many times, from many politicians.  So I think it is a statement that is worth thinking about.   It assumes:   1.  That the country was "great" in the past 2.  That there is some universally agreed criteria about what it means to be "great"   So why don't we try and address these issues?  In particular let's think about what "greatness" is and how we might measure it to judge the claims of politicians and whether they achieve their promises.   Having read a lot of the history of the last 100 years or so, it is obvious that nations often claim a set of values and behave in a completely different way…

Enough with the attacks on BIG business

A common theme that always seems to unite both sides of the political aisle is advocacy for small business.  From sweetheart loans to tax rebates, a lot of public assistance is available for small business.  When the government isn’t helping small business, it’s usually going o…

THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG !

Hm. What do you see here ? Two or three ends ? Depends where you look from, right ?   The same thing happens when you say "I'm right, you're wrong". You look from the left, the other from the right, and - both are wrong - or right ?   Your "right", or point of view, is a combinatio…

Is Democracy Dead?

To me it appears that a small wealthy elite run the world. They buy the regime they want. In order for a candidate to be elected to office they have to attract enormous financial backing. This backing comes from political parties. The political parties are reliant on donors and in order to attract t…

The Deep State Takes a Deep Hit

The deep state took a deep hit Monday. Does History Repeat Itself?

In the previous post in this series Let's Talk  I asked why, in the year 2017, do we still have unresolved gender issues. Why do women feel the need to band together to acquire that which is their due? Today, thanks to a post by JoAnn Chateau entitled , I am inspired to ponder the question o…

Most government pensioners were sold

It's sad but true but most government unions managed to extort pension benefits for their members that were empty promises.  Oh I know all the agreements they made are "legally binding", but it's just as unrealistic for today's government pensioners to expect their promises to be fulfilled…
