A Tragedy with a Possible Promise of Hope

This morning, a senseless act of violence occurred at a baseball practice in Virginia.

House Majority Whip, Steve Scalise, was shot in the hip, along with gun shot wounds suffered by:

Zachary Barth, a member of Rep. Roger Williams staff.

Matt Mika, a lobbyist for Tyson Foods.

David Bailey, U.S. Capitol Police.

Special Agent Crystal Griner, U.S. Capitol Police.

The gunman was from Bellville, Illinois.

The gunman inquired, of a Congressman who left the Charity Ballgame Practice early, if the players on the field were Democrats or Republicans.

Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, gave an impassioned and heartfelt speech to the House of Representatives.  The Speaker said, ‘An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us.’

The Speaker also said, ‘There are many memories from this day we will want to forget, and many images we will not want to see again.  But there is one image in particular that this House should keep.  And that is a photo I saw of our Democratic colleagues gathered in prayer this morning after hearing the news.’

‘Rep. Mike Doyle, the manager for the Democratic baseball team, said he invited the Republican team for dinner at the Democratic Club as a first step towards changing the heated political climate’, according to the Washington Times.

Can we meet in the middle…after all of the animosity and rancor and vitriolic rhetoric?

One supreme truth, that we hide from ourselves, is that we are one breath away from eternity.

We have more that unites us than divides us.

We love our children.  We love our families.  Indeed we are one Human Family.

As the author G.K. Chesterton said, ‘We are all in the same boat in a stormy sea, and we owe each other a terrible loyalty.’

We really have no choice.

The issue I see is that within 2 weeks this will be forgotten and Washington DC will be back to its dysfunctional normal.  We are a dying empire.

I know how I would answer that question.  The article I would have liked to read is how you’d answer that question.

Maybe we should increase the penalties for anyone that shoots politicians and add the places politicians work and play to the list of places it's illegal to have a gun near.

That's why Trump should thank Pelosi for her kind words and meet to discuss bipartisanship to make America greater!

There is a widely held feeling that the political animosity will return.  I believe that if it does the United States will continue to have a dysfunctional government that benefits no one.

As regarding, meeting in the middle, I found during my career of managing a large group of people, that communication is imperative to any success in bringing divergent groups together.  Not simply doing a lot of talking...but, more importantly, serious listening, with a sincere desire to understand and empathize with the person that you are listening to, point of view.

I do believe that our elected leaders need additional security.

Bipartianship is the key to political agreements that benefit all Americans.

Hate and Hate Speech are always dangerous and uncalled for.  The subsequent results are injury and death.

Every day the gangs in Chicago have drive by shooting where innocent people get murdered.   The Democratic government a decade ago tried to clean up the gang problem in Chicago and arrested and then convicted the older leaders of then just a few gangs.  What has happened is the break up of the gangs into immature smaller gangs.  This is what exists today.  But step back a few more decades and we see that the black ghetto was built by the Democratic party managing public housing and the money used to break up families substituting Uncle Sam's welfare check for a father together created the environment for the gangs.

Certainly we can meet in the middle ... but will we? All this evidence that we have to hang together or we'll hang separately, to quote Franklin, and we still can't bring ourselves to do it.

Bradley Brooks implores: sincere desire to understand and empathize with the person that you are listening to, point of view.-Oh, so now I'M SUPPOSE to believe others have a right to a woman's body and a right to impose someone elses' morality, think LGBQ people should be killed, and "those people" in inner cities left to starve, sicken and die as a matter of empathy or "understanding?"  Huh?

It is clear to me that, words, can be taken totally out of context.

I am am neither a Republican nor a Trump supporter.  I do however believe that the tremendous animosity and anger that is expressed from both political parties...is caustic and corrosive.

That does not mean a compromise of our principles of human and moral decency and advocacy for the many needy among us, or for individual rights of freedom to live as we choose.

However, certainly, the cavalier shooting of those we disagree with is a journey into a hopeless abyss...that is being illustrated weekly, and at times daily, by the horrendous acts of terrorism around our Globe...in the name of one group being 'right' and the other being 'targets of hate'.

I'm a very liberal, lefty, and I find this to be a horrible act of senseless violence. No one deserves to be shot for their ideology. This is allegedly, 'merica, land of the free and home of the brave. We are all so divided now that no one can see and or celebrate our own unique and beautiful differences. Last I checked, there was only ONE human race... Bout time we start teaching that reality.

Lisa, as someone who leans right in most areas--you couldn't be more correct.
