easy solutions and convenient scapegoats
is all that is needed to keep us afloat

it’s pretty darn easy to keep people so scared
to keep them from thinking about where they are led

you might think its korea or maybe it’s russia
the deception just keeps you under some presh’a

well it could be those blacks or even caucasians
they both have what it takes to be all that brazen

it’s not that surprising we’ve got nazis abound
hell, all of those red commies have nearly left town

there’s got to be some kind of big scary presence
to keep you from honing your personal essence

you think you’ve got freedom, that you think on your own
as you watch that TV and text on your phone

the propaganda is so deep you keep plowing through it
you think it is real when you lose your mind to it

fooling yourself is just part of the process
we all stand around and admire the colossus

be it the trump, the obama, or even that bush
who promised panacea if we elected them first

pull their statues down and call in the hearse
they all have to go, they’re something perverse

the crap they continue shows you the score
they pretty much all are just puppets and whores

all adulation that their followers still give
never seems to relieve their selfish false fears

and all of the anger that makes you so mad
when promises aren’t delivered like discarded fads

so let’s blame that mexican or that middle eastern jihad
for all of the troubles that we’ve never had

will we wake up and truly take a good look
or continue to stand around as our goose’s being cooked

the false flag operations that this country concocts
are in truth cannon fodder for all the war hawks

what you see and are told ain’t what is happening at all
it just a pharmaceutical high while we all take the fall!

It came to Tubularsock that the more it is the same the more the bullshit remains!

Issues are complex, there's plenty of blame to go around, but we have to come together at the negotiating table to come up with centrist sensible solutions.  That's why moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats need to come together to achieve legislative success, because look what happened with health care, conservative and moderate Republicans can't agree on legislation.  Moderates from both parties have to come together to get things done!
Tubularsock Added Aug 27, 2017 - 11:48am
Dino, thanks for the comment. Tubularsock agrees but that is where leadership comes in and in that area there is a void at the moment.

Tubularsock,

Good poem.  Sad but true.  Politics is group dynamics without benefit of therapy.  Scapegoating (and blame) are symptoms of un-evolved groups.  Governments traditionally find external (or internal) scapegoats they can blame for unresolved issues within.  The tactics seem to work for a "honeymoon" period, then the old issues resurface in a new context.

A mature group rallies around what is perceived as the shared task and attempts to re-integrate the externalized pieces.  By doing this, it can grow to new levels of understanding.

Perhaps the best leaders are those who know how to listen with the intent to understand rather than refute.

Katharine, thanks for the comment. You are so correct. We have had few good leaders and now the Congress is centered around complete self interest. Somehow they don't seem to recognize anything EXCEPT money.

tubularsock..weird name but so is wsucram15, so hey.
Great poem and very true. One day we will wake up, I hope its in time
I really do. But all the engaging drama to keep us entertained while our world seeps away is pathetic and speaks volumes about us as a society.
Very sad.

Good one T/S!
Maybe the Orange Buffoon is just what we need right now to awaken us to our lack of involvement in determining the direction of our government, which has come under the control of the corporations and in turn, manipulating us to meet their desires.
It may also be true (as past history) that maybe once we realize how divided we are, it will spark a movement to bring us back together.
I remember when I was a child how bad the medicine tasted and how bad the shot in the ass cheeks hurt, but it always made me feel better in the end.

'Moderate' Rs and Ds have been coming together to achieve success.
Success for the donor class.

But they are moderate only in the context of the extreme right wing politics that plays in America. The politics of fascism

I'm with Dino on this one. But hey, you said it in rhyme ... there's something we need more of in politics.
John G Added Aug 28, 2017 - 1:59am
Yeah, compromise.
When one side says let's gas the Jews.
And the other side says no.
Let's compromise and gas them.
But only a few.

The politics of fascism

"Fascism" and "socialism" are two names for the same thing. Different leaders, perhaps, but same "fuck you" to the individual worker.

TS - good poem! We all get shafted in the end.
Bill H. Added Aug 28, 2017 - 11:13am
Once again we have people out here that don't know the difference between Fascism and Socialism.
Fascism is defined as the merging of corporate and government interests. In simpler terms, it’s when corporations have taken over the government. This is also called a Oligarchy because the wealthy control the entire country. It has recently been relabeled as Corporatism.
Socialism on the other hand is where people are directly involved in the production of goods and services, things like cooperatives where the workers are the owners of the businesses. This doesn’t mean the government owns and manages the businesses. The business exists for the sake of providing for society, or the social good. Communism differs because it controls it's economy through a single authoritarian party. It is thus characterized as conservative because the economy functions based on the decisions of a few (I remember Trump labeling Bernie Sanders as a "Socialist Communist".

Before one starts throwing around labels that they think look and feel good, check your history. For those who have been around for a while, most of us remember the teachings of our high school government classes. At the moment, our system is looking more and more Fascist rather than Capitalist.

Bill H,
I'm not sure anyone has successfully defined the difference between socialism, communism, fascism, capitalism, and grand larceny.  You say that in socialism, the workers are directly involved in the production of goods and services, and you mention cooperatives, but can you give any examples of that being done successfully?  Isn't that what the USSR tried?  Isn't that what's failing in Venezuela?

In any case, I don't see any of those "ism"s being fair to workers or taxpayers, in practical terms.  Also, it seems the participatory economy you describe would be hard to enact on a large scale, even though it's an ideal worth striving for.
Bill H. Added Aug 28, 2017 - 3:22pm
Katherine - I believe it has worked well in countries like the Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and New Zealand in the correct form. The so-called "socialism" as it is/was applied in the Soviet Union, Venezuela, East Germany, and Cuba is a corrupted version and obviously didn't work well for the people.
I believe the ideal system would be a mix of the best of the best presently working systems. In my opinion, we need to get away from what has turned from Capitalism to Corporatism/Fascism.
George N Romey Added Aug 28, 2017 - 3:37pm
Bill with the allowing of huge corporations through endless mergers we've ended up with corporatism. 50 years ago a Wal Mart of Exxon Mobil was considered unthinkable. Today these companies can buy government. This is socialism for large corporations.
Lady Sekhmetnakt Added Aug 28, 2017 - 6:23pm
The United States government today is fascist and verging on feudalism it's so bad. The middle class is being destroyed. Anyone who can't see this is blind.

John G Added Aug 28, 2017 - 7:56pm
but can you give any examples of that being done successfully?
Pretty much every socialist leaning state in history was successful until the capitalist countries, usually in league with the elite class in the target country, undermined and subverted these countries through economic warfare and violence.
Americans are bombarded with and conditioned by a vast propaganda operation that misinforms, disinforms and alters discernible reality.
For example, can you tell me whether there are more Venezuelan refugees in Colombia than vice versa?

wsucram15, thank you for your comment. Yes, weird is in the eye of the beholder so thank you.

Tubularsock has waited so long for people to wake up but the fun thing is they can’t! Just think if it all worked for the good then people would have to face themselves!

Shit, WWIII would be easier that that!
Tubularsock Added Aug 29, 2017 - 12:40am
Bill H., that was then and this is now and now if that shot in the ass killed you but profit was made then fuck you! Things have rapidly gone rampantly down hill. But there is a plus side, invest in pharmaceuticals!

Tubularsock Added Aug 29, 2017 - 12:43am
Katharine Otto, Tubularsock sees where you are coming from but Bill H has an excellent point. Much of those systems work in the pure form but few have existed as such due to corruption or outside influence to hinder progress. But there are enough examples of success if the atmosphere is correct.

It's always war. War, war, war! I'd give up all my political aspirations if the US would stop bombing everybody. But no one cares. Arguing over abortion is easier.
Tubularsock Added Aug 29, 2017 - 12:16pm
Glenn, Tubularsock agrees with you.

War is so "normal" that it appears as just another breakfast cereal.

And all war is is a form of retroactive birth control that seems to be accepted and not thought about UNLESS we get attack.

Then all effort is blamed on “other” with no reflection upon ourselves and our role in causing it.

Thanks for your comment.

Tubularsock notes: That is the bottom line. Has there ever been a time that socialism has had a clear shot without disruption? Donna sez: Michka- Great observation!
Tube- As always good article-Thanks, but Allende and what happened in Chile all those years ago is a perfect example of the US fingering an attempt at socialism,as well as interfering in a government.  We didn't just hack their elections, we just ensured their elected leader was assassinated.

Yep, Jeff. We will kill what we don’t like in the name of Democracy!
