SEASONS OF LIFE - POEM

My Recent Posts

Spring is here and so am I
I try to speak and fall and cry
my mother hugs me and I see
the world is new, ready for me.

Summer is here and I grow up
experience all and never stop
to see the girls and dance, it fits
to wed a girl, marry, get kids.

Autumn is here, enjoy the sun
evening with friends, have decent fun
although the mirror tells me hey
your handsomeness not here to stay.

Winter is here, dark, wet and cold
my body tells me I get old
remaining time here is no fun
pack bags and go - towards the sun.

After apparently having disrespected the 48 hours (time difference Europe-US is REALLY bugging...) I give it another go :-)

SEF - I think I already commented on this one.
May you enjoy and prolong the autumn of your life in the warm sun of Africa. I'm sure those evenings with friends will be rejuvenating.

I think of taking my guitar on the beach, light a fire and fry some fish and have a couple of beers with friends like I so often did on beaches around the globe on my travels when I was young.

But maybe I won't - I might get a depression ;-) That's the reason why I never went back to places I lived decades or years before and always looked for new stuff. I did that once - Sri Lanka in 1979 and again in 1990. Deception....

Although now it's different. I'm no longer a traveller or hobo. I have developed roots in those 3 countries, and I simply go back and forth since I'm not cloned yet to be in all 3 at the same time LOL

SEF - I can imagine you on that beach. Play a song and have a beer for me.
You make me nostalgic for my youth. Those were days of travel, friends and sharing on beaches all over the world. Nothing mattered then. We were fearless and laughed a lot. We were idealistic and as free as the wind. Life gets more complex as you get older.

Life gets more complex as you get older.

It doesn't get more complex, we get more complex, we expect more, we're not easily satisfied anymore because NEW impressions get rare, curiosity gets lost, and we have a broader knowledge of the sad things happening around. And we let ourselves be enslaved by material desires which require us to work as horses often in jops we don't like to be able to pay off those self-inflicted obligations...

WE are the source for our problems :-)

Why do we get so sad, is it fear of abandonment? Why do we so seek permanence, when we know that it does not exist?

is it fear of abandonment

You got it. The fear of loss of something which seems to be impossible to lose for us, since we ALWAYS had it. We can NOT imagine to "be without us" ;-)

SEF - that's true - I was thinking of the strictures that come with having children - house, mortgage and loss of spontaneity.
Stone-Eater Friedli Added Sep 3, 2017 - 12:58pm
Exactly. That's why I was and am still a hobo at heart. Not moving means ending.

Me too.

Mr. Alzheimer told me the other day if I carry on like this he surely won't invite me into his club LOL

And it happens oh so fast! Just over a week ago, I attended my 50th High School reunion and saw school friends I haven't seen since the late '60s. Somehow I could recognize many of them on first glance, as they were just older versions of who I remembered back then. My first girlfriend in school is now quite "rotund" and the nerdy girl that wouldn't leave me alone was the foxiest chick at the reunion (wouldn't you know!). I did luck out because I ended up getting married to the best looking girl in our class, and I am still married to her after 47 years.

Wow. I'm on my second marriage but this one lasts 21 years as well now ;-)

Bill - I also lucked out and married the best looking girl in the whole area - also the most intelligent, caring and creative. She's my dancer. We can outdo you because we've been together fifty years this last August.

!!! 50 ?
opher goodwin Added Sep 4, 2017 - 5:39am
Yeah SEF - 50. I started going out with my lady when I was a mere lad of eighteen and she was a slip of a beauty of seventeen. She's my guiding star.

Thanks again. I try my best. Actually I should do one in German for a change, but then nobody would understand it :-|

I like it, but it left me a little depressed ... I've been dealing with a lot of time passing issues lately.

I guess a slight depression when age comes is quite normal. As long as it's not ruling your life.
Mark Hunter Added Sep 5, 2017 - 8:37am
The trick is to stay so busy it doesn't have time to rule your life!

The cultural bias notwithstanding, your piece depicts a story started eons ago on which many disagree. But time and life marches on.
