The PC Thanksgiving

Here is the hallowed Tofurkey.

It is the only thing allowed to me

On a Thanksgiving that is so PC.

Not allowed to say grace

Or be accused based on race.

Not allowed to thank God

Because that's considered so odd.

Can't discuss Pilgrims unless

Lectured on Indian's duress.

Oh, no, that word is forbidden,

My -ss will now be ridden

by the liberal lynch mobs

until wracked by sobs

or they move on to the next target

of two minute hate and yet …

I just want to be happy with my life

Not have to suffer with such strife

But liberal politics won't leave alone

Just hector and nag until we all groan.

Or say here are all the things we must hate.

Can't we just enjoy the food we ate?

No, you have to listen to them rant and hector.

Christmas will bring its own lecture.

The left wonders why we're all so divided.

It is because the right is so derided.

They think it is moral to inject politics everywhere.

And they'll attack you if you challenge them there.

Kids, let’s talk about why the nation is only bad.

And destroy the holiday fun we once had.

Collective guilt, blame and shame,

for this we have a name.

This is social justice

Ruining life for the rest of us.

Please just pass the rolls and eat

Without making us all want to retreat,

Without shaming and blaming like ancient Puritans

While you say they are the only bad ones.

Let us come together as family.

We can have peace if that’s not a memory.

Remember that diversity

Must include ideology

If we’re all to truly be free,

And able to live peacefully.

What do the bad liberals do?  Come over to your house and wreck your holidays?
Dino Manalis Added Nov 15, 2017 - 7:15pm
Normal and moral people allow us to say these things and enjoy our holidays.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Tom C. Purcell Thank you.

Flying Junior In response to your question, yes, I've had liberals ruin family meals by injecting politics into everything, hectoring people, lecturing everyone. If I'm at your house, I'll consider that part of your rules. In my house, we follow my family's traditions including saying prayers and turkey.

Liberals destroyed a lot of "civility" by saying there is no barrier between the personal and the political, so the political infects EVERYTHING from sports to science fiction to family meals. And they think it is moral to do so, which is why they smear you as evil for saying "give us peaceful space to just be together", then blame conservatives for the divide they created.

Dino Manalis Thank you. I hope you have a good holiday as well.

Tamara and Dino,

I hope nobody ruins your Thanksgiving this year.  Have a lovely time with your family and friends.

Nice lines, Tamara. Would you see fit to link from this post to The Burghal Hidage's original which inspired you? I replied to him there, in verse, but I'm not sure Autumn would like me to copy my reply into this thread.

I've noticed already (in my one attempt so far) that poetry doesn't seem to work well on WB. Maybe we wannabe poets should work together a bit more?

Flying Junior Thank you for the sentiments.

Great piece, Tamara! The only thing I might take issue with is that the Puritans got a bad rap and did not universally fit the modern stereotype of them.
Yes, they were generally more serious about their Christian faith than most people are today, but they were not the stern, dour people they are portrayed as.

Really enjoyed the poem. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Nice poem Tamara. Since Thanksgiving is about exploitation, we'll have to do away with it as well, or include in all turkeys a some information on how we exploited the Native Americans.

Dale Murrish Social justice bullies shaming and harassing people remind me of the "Scarlet Letter", but Puritans had limits like only punishing the guilty person instead of spiraling out to family and friends, having strict limits on what could be done because they had to live with the person afterward, and you weren't allowed to make it impossible for them to earn a living.

And I know the archeological evidence has found hair tonics, china and other luxury items in Puritan settlements.

Jeff Jackson Thank you. I hope you have a good holiday, too.

Tamara - you are welcome.

Sure, Tamara, but like anything else, if you read the Puritan writings, they were very solid in their Christian faith and were generally admirable people. They get a lot of bad press from people nowadays who make much of some of the things they did wrong. Here is a good resource on the Puritans and some of their writings. This website also includes some Reformed Christian authors:
