What I learned from Alabama Special Election

My Recent Posts

This is the second time that the best GOP candidate, a conservative, was not on the ballot. Instead Moore and Trump became the GOP candidates. The DNC put Trump on the ballot while the RNC put Moore on the ballot. GOP leadership I believe would have been comfortable with Trump or Moore loosing to the Democratic Candidate. The excuses are gone since Trump became President. They now have all three of the critical elements to keep promises made for years to voters. There isn't a rush to keep there promises, and they are watering down the promises, YES YES. Moore loss prevents another vote in McConnell's caucus that opposes is agenda and a platform to speak to the public opposing him.

Elimination of Ted Cruz ended the change of conservative voices being heard in the GOP. Conservatives can only disruptive Congress, GOP or Dem agendas, but risk corrupting their principles by working in such an abusive environment. GOP attack the conservative more ruthlessly then Democrats. Democrats prefer to have GOP establishment candidates then conservatives. Both are willing to aim the deep state against conservatives. For example the IRS singling out tea party non-for-profit organizations.

President Ronald Reagan was the last conservative. He fought the GOP as much as he did the Democrats. Presidential W. Bush rejected conservative principle and his tax increase both ended Reaganomics and put President Bill Clinton in the White House. The GOP didn't complain much.

The Crown governments in the Colonies produced a wave of conservatism in America that created this country, but once the Crown was gone it started to fall apart into our two party system. Parties with self interests. Only when the parties became a new Crown government it seem that conservatism grows in popularity. Odious regulations on the states is causing a revolt but the state legislature that will send candidates to second method of drafting Amendment, a convention, may not draft amendments that return us to the founders principles.

Conservatism need to goes back to the grass roots and educate a voting base. Regulations on local governments today are so odious that even if elected conservative principles can not be applied. Thus education to create a ground swell to overwhelm the special interest is the only hope. That has happened twice it the past two and a half centuries.

Roy wasn't straightforward with his misbehavior forty years ago, he just denied everything and voters didn't buy it, honesty and morality come first to gain public trust.

Roy Moore is not the major subject.   Dino M. please give me a list of perverts that have stopped about 38 years ago?   None of the Hollywood, media, or political alleged perverts being accused are similar.  All have are recent and many have been doing the same thing for years.   Ask professionals and I suspect they will say the this sickness is typically life long.
So what are the options left?  One that the accusations are Bird Dogs that are acting, made up scrips that are well constructed and practiced.  Thus believable and with few errors.
Or two this could be a man after Vietnam that suffered from PTSD about 40 years ago and has recovered years ago, like 35 years.  The solders of previous wars, many recover without professional help.  Moore may have turned towards religion.  It doesn't matter how he recovered.   But he is now not a pervert.
Having lost Dino M. what does it matter?

Where do you get the idea that RR was for limited government.  He exploded the deficit and doubled the national debt, particularly within the MIC.  So did Obama.  Therefore the only logical conclusion is that Obama was a RR conservative.
These men that have tried to put the moves on women are going to be dragged through the mud whether politicians, entertainers or business moguls.  Its as simple as that.  They will be from all stripes and ethnic backgrounds.  They will be shamed out of their high power jobs.  Maybe next time others will just simply by a hooker to get their jollies off.

George how about taking a more complete picture, "Summer of Recovery" promised VP Biden in 2009, never happened.  Instead we got another FDR and Carter malaise recovery.  Obama followed their blue print for recovery with the same results, a malaise.  Obama is not a RR conservative because he used the socialist Keynes economic recovery blue print.  "Obama's annualized growth rate of 2.24% dead last compared to the six other recoveries since 1960, which averaged 3.97% after 23 quarters. This translates into nearly $1.7 trillion (in constant 2009 dollars) in absent economic growth"  Where Reagan annualized growth rate of 4.8% translates into $2.48 trillion (in constant 2009 dollars).  "The economy is now more than 15% smaller than it would have been with Reagan style growth."  Fox News How Obama’s Recovery Compares to Reagan’s Recovery
Stephen Moore / Joel Griffith / May 03, 2015
George, what did we get with Obama's and Reagan's, "exploded the deficit and doubled the national debt" [Reagan doubled a much smaller debt then Obama.]  Reagan collapsed the USSR economy ending the cold war.  The cost of the money saved in the decades afterwards easily recuperated the debt.   Obama saw the growth of ISIS, near collapse of Iraq, Iran becoming a regional power, Putin breaking a mutual defence contract and the US not keeping our side of the three way bargain, and instability in the Middle East and Africa after the Arab Spring.

George I do not get the last paragraph.  First of all it as little to do with conservatism.

Thomas sexism comes in all stripes not just liberal or conservative.
Obama never got growth because as much as corporate America bitches they’d rather buy back stock and pay outrageous C level pay then spend money on R&D. Obama did what the corporate masters dictated. His entire Treasury Cabinet was a Who’s Who of Wall Street.
Thomas Sutrina Added Dec 15, 2017 - 1:58pm
Obama had 8 years.  No excuses accepted.  What you are telling us how corporations responded to the malaise economy creating policies of Keynesian economics.
Sexism did play a part in both elections.  We do know that Bird Dogs were trained to damage GOP during the 2016 campaign.  One of three reasons for the sexism charge to Moore includes trained Bird Dogs.  So it is possible that all the sexism charges against GOP candidates are from Bird Dogs, actors following a well orchestrated script.  Hillary and Bill Clinton sexism is now recognized by the Democrats so clearly are valid.    But sexism doesn't play a role in the future of the conservative movement or lack there of.

What I’m saying is that Obama was a corporate shrill. If he was a socialist he was a pathetic one. The stock market tripled during his 8 years but Main Street never got their economic recovery.

In the South, lose the "Nice People" and you lose the election.  That's the take-away. Enough of the community leaders stayed away and Moore lost.

I tend to think that the allegations about the 14 year old and forcing himself on young women are probably unsupported.
On the other hand, he uncontrovertibly dated women in their teens when he was in his 30s (which is not illegal if they were over 16).
The acquisitions forced people to look at the undeniable, unpalatable (but not illegal) facts.
Thomas Sutrina Added Dec 16, 2017 - 7:34am
Teen age marriages at 16 in the south was legal John M. fourty ago.  And 15 years is not an uncommon age difference between a man and women.  Have one in my own family.  Married for about 30 years.  Two children.  She is a school psychologist.  Trump now.  Standards were different 40 years ago.
John Minehan Added Dec 16, 2017 - 8:25am
But 14 was illegal;  the acquisition about the 14 year old made people confront the fact Moore dated (legally) teenagers as a thirty-something ADA, USMA Grad and Combat Vet.
"Nice People" were forced to look closely at Moore . . . and they did not like what they saw.
There is a political and public relations lesson here for those who want to see it.

Thomas you make several good points about how the machinery works, whether Repubs or Dems in power.
And I may agree with you on the fact that roy is not exhibiting the behaviors he displayed 40 years ago. Heck, we all get less sexually active as we age.
Thomas Sutrina Added Dec 16, 2017 - 10:56am
Stephen H. you can not say that age effected Bill Cosby.  You see he has a perversion problem.  Roy Moore does not fit Bill Cosby's characteristics.   That is a fact.
The 14 year old is one of the weakest.  I falls apart because she said she had a phone in her room.  The party line was very common in those days and a home typically had only one phone.  If there was a second it was in the parents room.   We are talking about middle class house hold.  The mother said she did not have a phone in her room.
Add to this and we have a report that some of Trump's accuser received money to go public.   I believe there are similar allegations made for some of Moore's accusers.    The end conclusion is that when power is the issue people that want power are willing to cheat.  A senate seat is a position of power thus all allegations must consider that fraud is likely.   It boils down to a she said, he said and both have as much reason to be lying, equal.
Utpal Patel Added Dec 17, 2017 - 5:54am
The Moore situation was not only a he said she said situation.  If you bothered to read about the accusations you’d learn that it was all very believable.  Here is a link so that you are better informed:
Making matters worse was his response and his lawyer’s response to those allegations.  They both made many incriminating statements.
Finally, the GOP and Trump only embraced Moore after he won the nomination and they did so very tepidly because of this scandal.  So don’t make it sound like the RNC, GOP or Trump was the reason he was nominated and lost.
Stephen Hunter Added Dec 17, 2017 - 7:45am
The reason he lost was because a lot more of the black population voted, was it not?
I think this fact is the scariest because as we know, nationally if they showed up at this rate, the Repubs would not have a chance.
Thomas Sutrina Added Dec 17, 2017 - 8:44am
Stephen, the Republicans didn't show up.  Moore is a horrible campaigner.  A horrible ad hock speaker.  He is not the typical bargaining politician.  Thus we have his past political actions as a judge.    The key is that Mitch McConnell in effect put him on the ballot causing the loss of the seat.
Moore couldn't even defend himself well on the allegations.   The women were well coached.  I believe he married a women in the same age range as the accusers.  Some men like younger women and some woman like older men.
Consider that the county that he is from and which he spent his hole life in except for college and military service overwhelmingly kept voting him in to county, state, and federal positions and overwhelmingly voted for him again.   My guess is that everything in the allegations were not secretes and no one though his actions  were objectionable.   The knew the women's stories were coached to be better then what actually happened.
