The Exile's Flight

My Recent Posts

Exiles can form no attachments

Foreign to the landscape

as they are

Floating reproductive detachments

Landing as they escape

from afar

Seed invasion, take root or die

Most drift on in their course

Wither I, or whither I?

Weeds for a season, trees an age

They survive no remorse

There's no guilt they need to assuage

Nameless, forgotten, wallpaper pattern

Red-eyed reflection

Staring in space

Forgotten the name

Still see the face

Appeared there just briefly

On his way through the place

Seeking the no place in no place to hide

Where surely the no man seeks to reside

Veni, Vidi, Vici - then bored by it all

Striving to reach the end of the fall

from grace in their eyes,

if seen at all

We're all weeds passing through exiled from Africa.

Immigration is normal, but the refugee crisis is abnormal and driven by chaos in their homelands and terrorists are taking advantage of this unrest.  Like Sisi of Egypt, their homelands need stable regimes to stop Sunni-Shiite hostilities.

Dino - No. I don't believe that is true. There have been many examples of mass migrations and displaced people. I think the hysteria about terrorism has stirred that one up.

Really? Left for interpretation, to be sure I can't fault you for it, but how this disappoints me.  Dino your authenticity is suspect to me at best. Not what you say, but your very existence. Are you a bot, programmed to flit about and alternately apply vinegar or honey as may be warranted?

For the record the above has absolutely nil, zero, nada to do with immigration, the middle east, stable regimes, armed insurrection, peasant land seizure, pixellated muppet porn, global warming, global cooling, global I-dont-know-what-the-fuck, the military industrial complex, sexual harrassment, sexual gratification, social mobility, social justice, the resistance, globalism, racism, racists, those suspected of being racists, those suspected of secretly harboring racist sympathies, Donald Trump's hair, Hillary Clinton's cankles, big pharma, big insurance, big oil, greed, envy, lust, vanishing species, currency collapse, civil forfeiture, the police state, the insanity of prohibitions, Opher Goodwin's hat size, Stone Eater's preferred guitar strings, George Romey's necktie, Dave Volek's coat collar, Katherine Otto's degree of astigmatism OR what is Autumn's middle name. Don't get me wrong. Most, if not all, of these topics are of at least some interest to me. But the poem?

Its just a poem

Burger - no poem is just a poem. It is full of subliminal metaphors. Seeds floating on the wind. Ideas floating through the ether. Migrations of foreign matter.
At least allow us our whimsy.

Allowance granted :)  No problem, I did say it's interpretation. You were only responding to the prompt.  You get the metaphors, intended or implied. It's actually rooted a bit more in some personal experience, but one that is a human experience in the broader sense. We are like seeds, carried by forces beyond our ken to land where we land in life. There we take root or we blow on. Whither I to some other place to take root? Or wither I to some barren plain to return to dust?

Burger - the winds of fate conspire to blow us to places where we take root. There we will blossom or wither. Eventually we return to dust after releasing our seeds into the winds of chance.

Indeed. I think Moby captured the sentiment rather well....We are all made of stars.  Don't think thats original to him, but he ran with it.

I've gone through nearly all of my life without the common use of either a time piece or a camera.  Human creations for the purpose of subjugating the elemental - time and experience - to some parameters measured to fit our limited understanding.  From the many places I've been and the experiences, a lifetimes worth, there is precious little recorded in photography or any other medium. This was never for the want of a device : I just never felt the need or desire.  In moments where it would have seemed right to capture the image it just always seemed to me that the act of recording just got in the way of the experience.

So many occasions I can think of that I have no personal recording other than my own recall, yet I may have been captured by someone else's lens.  I was there. I have it. It's in my head and I like it there. And I like the thought that the only preservation of my part, aside from my own memory, is the nameless face present upon a page in some stranger's photo album

Burger - I just wish my memories were crisper and more reliable. Unfortunately we recreate them.

Hmm...this response fits to another thread in Wendy S's article Move On....

Yes,there can be a tendency to recreate memories to suit a narrative. I think they call that wishful thinking :) I have always been blessed with extraordinary recall. This can be useful at times, but it can also be a curse. Some things you'd like to just turn off.
