James Travil brought it up: We don't have enough women on WB. Why is that so ?

I guess it has to do with the fact that interests are different. While men are more into economy and politics, women are more into family and relations. Sorry, I'm simplifying, I know. No insult there to any lady :-)

But you see, when I'm talking with Jeanne, we talk about music and the past, and we have a really good time. When I talk to George, it's about the economy and loss of jobs. When I talk to Ric, I talk to a person who thinks above these things, a philosoph. When I talk to Michael, he fucks me and I fuck him about Swissness and US imperialism, but finally we could have a beer together no sweat.

Ladies here might be, because they are mostly more emotional in discussions than we men, scared off because the language we use is ..... not really appropriate when seeing other blogs where people are censored. But hey, that's REAL LIFE talk. And that's why I'm still on here.

We need more ladies here for sure. But then, the ladies also have to accept that this place is not a BEEP BEEP place when it's getting tough in a discussion.

I mean, there is feminism, right ? Which means that women demand equal rights and all, and we men don't deny that.

And we also want them to say fuck when they want to and tell us what they think about world politics. Because a FUCK is an EMOTION.

BTW: I find that women are much more reasonable when it comes to politics, arms and war. Maybe because they can give BIRTH.

We should more listen to them, without losing our own self-esteem. But we also have to remind them that we're not all egoistic, prick-oriented assholes who want to suppress women. And that we want out share of "equality" too. It is no progress for anyone that the advantages we men had before are now turned into the opposite for women.

Mutual respect for both is what we need.

So women, come around and join WB :-)

I think women bring a civilising atmosphere with them (generally - there are exceptions). Perhaps the aggressive rudeness on this site is a turn off to most women. The women I hang around with wouldn't want to be part of the vitriolic slanging matches and personal nastiness that is part of the many of the threads on here.
That is a very good reason why we need more of them.

Maybe we need a safe room for women where you are not allowed to challenge them and call them out or say anything that may upset them.

But, that might be an insult to the high-quality female posters on WB.  I'll take quality over quantity any day.

To suggest everything must be 50% men and 50% women is sexist by definition, to judge what is or not by what is between someones legs.

I don't see what's sexist here. I guess even the word "sexist" is one of those trend words like "terrorist" or "Nazi". Words which can be used to label anyone that doesn't meet one's own POV.

Stone,
I feel I should comment, but what to say?  I like the discussions here, but fear you are right that women generally don't converse about  interesting things like politics and religion.  I hope that's changing.

One thing I like about men is that they are hard hitters.  Men don't seem as easily offended by personal attacks and come back with their own.  I wince at some of the attacks and don't do it myself, but it's gratifying that people can engage in that, get over it, and still air their positions.

People have been very gentle and supportive with me on WB, so I can't complain about being treated unfairly.

It's not only about a serious discussion whether civil or not. In my view, it's also about showing that one considers another's opinion and is able to admit "I think you could be right in that and I could be wrong".

Well, now we know who the Second Lady is on WriterBeat. (The First Lady, of course, is Autumn). The Second Lady is Katharine, who always offers interesting ideas (at least for me), and can pack a punch when she disagrees but is never nasty about it.

Other ladies? I've interacted with Jeanne, and with Passion Blues (at least, I assume she's a lady). And Tamara Wilhite, though only once so far. But there aren't a lot of them about here.

And Stone-Eater my friend, you are spot on with your last three paragraphs.

Thank you Neil. True, oh, sorry, I forgot Gerrilea, a newer lady here ! Passion seems to have left. Donna too. Maybe we should in all be more gentleman-like.

I kind of like those past times where men were gentlemen and ladies were ladies. The clothing, the lifestyle - it had class. Today it all has become a bit washed out and blurred.

I don't want to say that I'm a role model fan, but people need orientation. When each gender is available for any event, people can't develop a certain mental stability. We mustn't make humans more complicated than they are.
Stone-Eater Added Apr 30, 2018 - 3:52pm
BTW:

I was talking with my friend and business partner in Senegal and his wife about that. They told me: "Listen, we both have our roles in the family. She said: When my husband don't has work, I work, otherwise it's him, because he's better in biz and I'm better in bookkeeping and figures. We share this. But I can still be a woman, because I'm running the household. He's outside mostly and looks for business. And we respect each other, no matter which "role" each of us has at the moment. Because we both work for the family."

Muslim family, by the way LOL

In general, on the level of averages, men are more interested in politics and philosophical discussions. Women are often politically active - PTA and school boards tend to be dominated by women - but policy wonks and detailed analysis of theories tend to be  by guys.

I suspect the fact that most discussions out here get spun into some political bashing session would keep most women away. Apparently not. I have seen this kind of thing before, in school the faculty (engineering) wanted to attract more women into engineering. So conceivably, and likely, some young guys who really wanted to be engineers got set aside for some women that got talked into it.
Utterly stupid "equality".

No, it doesn't depend on POV. The left are a bunch of racist sexist fascists and they are going around labeling everyone else as such. Its so ridiculous. I would never have believed it if I hadn't seen it.
I actually met an "intellectual" feminist who thought the world was dominated by a patriarchy and insisted that the only way forward would to be to have it lead by den-mothers and that den mothers should determine who does what and only den mothers.
If you cannot see the insanity of a double standard, your mind has already been destroyed.

On second thought, scratch that - "Hmmmm...have more kinky sex, or go on WB...decisions, decisions." Hopefully Janie will show her cute self again. From what I've seen, many women post one or two articles and then vanish. Most of the female regulars here are highly intelligent and very well-reasoned. Regarding the disappeared ones, some of them were pretty cool, and I wish they had stuck around. Others, however, are nothing but shrill, whiny, bitchy screamers who post and then run, taking their articles with them. My personal favorite was an Arab woman who proudly claimed that she was a Feminazi and was going to change the world. Apparently, a big, hairy, Arab male hand bitch-slapped Fatima's big, hairy, Arab female ass back into the tent.

I'm 5' 5", weigh 120 lbs., auburn hair, black eyes, yellow skin, and pink nipples attached to healthy "C" cup tits. My turn-ons include being dragged from a Harley until I achieve orgasm, men who consistently demonstrate dictatorial tendencies, clubbing baby seals, and, most important, articulate middle-aged men! I know Opher.  You wouldn't understand.  You are stuck with this idea of "gender equality" regardless of the facts.  Your intellectual contributions here are as substantial as reading Green Eggs & Ham.

I'll give you a hint.  A little factoid.  Over the past decade, enrollment by women in humanities and social programs has risen by 50% while women's enrollment in STEM degrees has dropped similarly.  All this while the cult-left has been pressing "equality" and widening opportunities for women to become STEM professionals.

Get a clue dude.  Women are not men.  They have different interests.  Politics is not one of them (mostly).  Politics is nasty and rough business in case you hadn't put two brain cells together to figure that out for yourself.  Women are nurturers (mostly).

I've worked with two gay men (that I know of) and neither had affective behavior at all. But then, this is rural Indiana; maybe they trained themselves to act "normal" as a survival tool. As for masculine seeming women who aren't lesbian, they abound in my line of work.

opher goodwin Added May 1, 2018 - 5:33am
Stone/William - you are both way off on this. PC is not abusing people, bullying or taking away their self-confidence and rights - that's all.
If women or people of colour or gay people are brought up in an environment which stereotypes them, puts them into pigeon-holes, denigrates their abilities, shoves them into secondary roles and doesn't treat them as equals then they will underperform and conform to the stereotypes they have been brought up with.
Yes they are different. That's good. They bring different attributes and emotions. But they are equal and should not be put down or confined to menial roles.
Enough said from me. I'm out of here for a couple of weeks.

Watching my son interact with other kids has been an experience.  All the younger boys are alike in that they prefer to fight to settle their differences.  The little girls like to tell the boys what to do, to which they reply, "Go away!"  There's a funny video of my son flying a kite with his grandfather when he was three.  This girl--perhaps a year older--pops into the scene.  She attempts to help him fly the kite.  He nudges her aside and yells, "Go away!"  He has so much to learn about women.  Someday he will learn that what is hers is hers and what is his is hers.

Not much changes as we get older.  As men, we like to fight it out--mostly with words.  Women attempt to tell men what to do and control them, and they stomp away mad when they can't.  Thank goodness there are a few who can tolerate us.

I agree to that.  I had a similar experience as a boy.  I was walking home from school one day when I found this plastic piece on the sidewalk.  I picked it up and played with it a while before sticking it in my pocket.  As it turned out, it was a plastic buckle from a girl's dress.

I get home and start playing with it.  My youngest sister steals it from me, claiming it was hers.  I took it back.  She told my other four sisters--all older--and the five of them jumped me.  In the melee that ensued, I inadvertently hit my oldest sister in their futile attempt to take it back.  That was a big no-no.  A boy can never hit a girl, even if she is more than twice his age and is attacking him with her fists.  A boy must never defend himself against a woman.  I got into a lot of trouble with my mother.  It was taken away from me unjustly by my mother and given to my little sister.  Further, my mother mocked me, taking me to the closet and taking the buckle off a girl's dress and giving it to me.  She didn't understand; the one I found was mine and I had the right to decide what happened to it.    Women naturally take the side of other women.

Now i swear like a sailor, smoke cigarettes, and can hold my own within a fight. My favorite drink is 101 proof Southern Comfort. If not hard core booze, then i prefer a good red wine.  Yes i have 8 older uncles who taught me to box, and then how to kick box. My dad always taught me, if i wanted equal rights, that meant at some point having to defend them, so i was taught boxing, how to shoot a gun,bow and arrow..As for this site being to much for a Woman, i think we have some great ones, Jennifer being one, Jeanne is another,Both would and could fight with words, and are knowledgeable. Women have no monopoly on telling people what to do.  Numbers don't go high enough to count the men who want to give advice before they even know the problem, even if it's not a problem.  By the way, you were right about the buckle.  There.  I'm taking your side against the women in your family.  I do hope no one hit anyone very hard.

Captain Gilbert, I'll never forget the day when I was flirting with Janie and joining forces with you in order to (hopefully) drive to nervous breakdowns and/or suicide various fruit loops, which you may or may not remember:

A slimy Yuppie-larva asshole that you labeled a Liquordale yachtie, a term I've used several times!

A Canadian midget who claimed to be a martial arts expert and a ladie's man. It was your keen eyes that pointed out the booster seat evident in his vehicle-borne selfie, and it was me who asked the question, "When you want to eat her out, what do you do...go UP on her?"

Others too numerous to mention, lol!

We did have some fun with a few that sorely needed it.

Good to hear :)

Wow..you all chase them away.  Seriously.   Donna is the coolest person to ever have come onto this page in my opinion. But thats me.

Glad to see you still on here SEF...pay no mind to the criticism.

I'm still around also, just not a lot of time for the place since I had my second child last November and got a promotion at work. Plus I let a lot of my activism work for the poor, animals, and children slip before. So I'm focusing more on that in my free time. But I pop in to read stuff from my favorites like Stone-Eater when I get a chance.

Thank you ladies.

Now we have them all here again :-))

Hey Jenifer! Nice to see you are alive and well! Congratulations, and I see you have your priorities in order, lol!
Lady Sekhmetnakt Added May 3, 2018 - 12:08am
Thanks Michael, and all. Yeah I think I have my priorities right. I still follow a lot of people here, including you, so when I get a notification of a new article I check it out if I get a chance. I haven't commented in a while but I throw out a few "likes" when people write stuff I enjoy. Who knows maybe I'll even find time to write something again eventually :-)

Very cool Jenifer! I know we've had our differences, but I definitely include you in my "cool" book, despite your Russophilia, lol. Best wishes to you and your family, and look forward to hearing from you again! : )

Nice to see you here Lady S, and thanks again for recommending this place to me. It's a real hoot!

Stone, this is one of those exceedingly rare occasions where I wish I could "double like" a post! Sehr gut! Prima! Ganz toll! You cleverly managed to coax several GLOWB's (Gorgeous Ladies Of Writer Beat) out of hiding! LOL

That was the intention LOL I hope they will be with us a bit more frequently in the future again :)

For whatever it’s worth, I’m as interested in anyone in making this site as diverse as possible and one of the ways to do that is to attract more women.  However, over the 6 years Writer Beat has been live, I can count the amount of women that turned out to be exemplary participants on one hand.  I’m not sure why that is, but I suspect it’s because women are less interested in political matters than men...generally speaking.  So while in the past I sought women out, today I completely ignore the gender of prospects.

That's what I mean too. Interests are different.

More women on WB?? my god man, next you will let them out of the kitchen. Seriously I love the ladies here, its great to hear their point of view.

You made it back :-) Great. That damn login stuff LOL

...and we have all the ladies here now again :-) I mean women can be a pain in the ass when they gripe around all the time but I guess the ones we have here are too smart for that LOL

Despite, the propensity of men here to don their codpiece to elevate their stands, I do not sense that this place is a bull session siesta. Women are welcomed and they can say their shit. I have seen where I went to the defense of a lady, from one cunt envy brother here, and I was attacked. if ladies are presenting rational and logical argument and cock--s ers are harassing them, reasonable brothers will put things right. So there is no bash woman syndrome here. After all, brothers donning their codpieces are doing so to get the attention of ladies, not to run them away. I remember I went hard on a newbie lady and bothers straightened me out---get then hooked before the use of real-world invectives.

Would it be possible to write that in some kind of English so non-Americans can understand it ?
Dr. Rupert Green Added May 8, 2018 - 12:19pm
@ Stone. You presuppose non-US readers are incapable of googling codpiece to understand its usage.

OK! So despite the flexing of their swords, elevated with rhetorics akin to the use of codpiece as enhancers of manliness, men here are welcoming of women and do not wish to bash them. Such is evidenced in the various pieces to reprimand men who came hard (rhetorically speaking) against women contributors.  Ps. I cannot simplifly more.

Yes, women deserve equal WB rights.  Let's set up quotas and force the men who want to participate in WB wait until an equal number of women can be coerced into participating.  That would make it fair, after all their are just as many women as men on the internet.

I think we also have to ban sexist speech including any suggestions that men might be more likely to be interested in politics and less interested in emotional discussions.  That line of thinking perpetuates ugly stereotypes that suggest women's brains are different making them less qualified to deal with issues like politics, "because they don't care about or understand it as much as men do".

If we quit putting dolls in our little girls hands and put toy soldiers and guns in their hands instead we would stop making them into emotional sissies and when they got older they would be just as focused on guns, violence, war, and politics as men are today.

And yes damn it, if men can swear like drunken sailors so can WB women.  Who says women can't keep up with the men.  F__K yes!

I do have one question, how do we know the sex of any WB writer?  All we have is an Avatar and their own words?
