Did you ever go to another state or country, and then have occasion to return after years away? When my mother died, I returned to Brentwood, Long Island, where I grew up. It was a TOTALLY different place. Much more developed, heavy traffic, and the feeling of nostalgia, left me immediately!

Well, I listened to Donald Trumps speech from South Carolina today, and got the same feeling. I have been away from America for many years now, and the nostalgia I had, left me! After listening to Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi, and then Trump, I realized that MY AMERICA no longer exists.

You see, I believe in the DIALECTIC! That by comparing arguments, and eliminating that which conflicts in extreme, a person can find truth to act upon.

http://csmt.uchicago.edu/glossary2004/dialectic.htm
" target="_blank">

In my America, the Democratic Party represented the working people. I was raised a Democrat, because my family were working class. Republicans represented the business class, and the rich. Well, the working class needs the business class to provide jobs and factories to work in, and we all need the rich to invest in those enterprises and finance development.

All realized we need each other! Democrats brought OSHA, unions and most of all RESPECT to workers. Republicans brought Industry and prosperity to communities. I was part of some union negotiations, and participated in strikes, but it always ended in Compromise! The company maintaining the profit margin needed to do business, workers getting protection and benefits to live a good life.

But I heard Maxine Waters calling for civil unrest, and personal attacks on anyone associated with the Trump admin. And Nancy Pelosi calling for protection of immigrants, and defiance of federal statutes. None seeking compromise, or new legislation.

Then I heard Trump blowing his own trumpet on how great everything is; and realized that Dialectic as a means of finding the best way to solve a problem is DEAD!

So Dialectic as a means of discovery is dead.

Journalism, as a means of discovering information is dead.

Honest appraisal of activity is dead.

Google Parrots who post on social media, are brain dead.

The only thing alive and well is EMOTION. Hate the other side, even if you once agreed with him. Oppose the other sides ideas and actions, even if it presents a solution to a problem.

Dialectic is dead! Which means reasonable solutions are dead. Which means compromise is dead. And reasonable doubt died a long time ago.

So I can not go home again, because the America where all opinions were allowed, i.e. “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it.”

Is dead, and no longer exists!

Epitaph. THE LATE GREAT UNITED STATES.

POST SCRIPT

I hear more and more people use the word absolutely, when presenting an argument. To me, that means they don't understand the issue. After all, if you don't understand there are two or more sides to an issue, how can you understand why it is an issue? How silly would you look debating a one sided issue?

But that is what American society has become; you are either on one side or the other; left or right, liberal or conservative, Republican or Democrat, Black or White, gay or straight. We assign names to diminish each other. WE argue constantly, but never come to an understanding.

Social progress is at a standstill World Wide. And those who are suffering the most, are the one's in society that need understanding the most!

“Hitherto men have always formed wrong ideas about themselves, about what they are and what they ought to be. They have arranged their relations according to their ideas of God, of normal man, etc. The products of their brains have got out of their hands. They, the creators, have bowed down before their creations.”
― Karl" target="_blank">Marx, The" target="_blank">German Ideology
