2018 Midterms are the Wildcard Round of the Playoffs for Dems

My Recent Posts

Well the title spoils the element of surprise here, but this will be brief anyway.  Sports analogies are quite useful, they are employed all the time (with the possible exception of the fashion industry). I often like to use these myself and when I do I stay within my comfort zone, the NFL. Being the chauvinist prick that I am I confidently assert that it is the only sport that matters.

Now... , the democrat party, in football terms are a team in the NFL. I won't attempt to identify them with a specific franchise or with a specific historic comparison. They are the team who entered the final month of the regular season with a two game lead in their division. Their nearest division rival had beaten them in the first of their two contests, but they had remained apace with that two game lead. The way that the schedule aligned had this division leader with an easy home field contest against a cellar dweller for game 15 and the finale vs. their division rival, also on their home field.

They are that team who then won two more, then choked to the cellar dweller in week 15. This sets up the game, in the season finale, where this division leader, win or lose, is still making the playoffs. If they win they win the division and possibly a first round bye in the playoffs. If they lose then they must enter the playoffs in the wild card round. In 2016 the democrats lost that season finale.

The 2018 midterms are the wildcard round. This time they either win or they go home. And they know it. The next 60 days promise to be an absolute circus.

I never understood the need to live vicariously through the abilities of overpaid athletes. Neither have I ever understood the near tribal views of these sports fanatics.

Then again, I never understood the whole left-right delusion where people claim one jackboot is great while the other is evil.

When I was a kid, there was a gas station that burned down.  All that remained was one conrete block wall.  I think it is still there today.  Not much changes in a small town.  Someone graffitied the wall with "Bull Shit" in large letters.  We drove by one day and my mother gave a chuckle.  Someone, maybe Ryan, added an "r" making it Bull Shirt.  I used it in that spirit.

Why go?
The entire thing is a mess and yes I am going to say that in the same regard Obama was withheld a nomination hearing, so should Trump be with held this until this is cleared up. Then his pick should be brought in front of Congress to be fair, after Merrick Garland.
That was underhanded and I promise, that is the thing that everyone will pay for in November...not Trump and his antics..just this.

Can you imagine what will happen if the GOP picks up seats in the mid-terms?  The Minions are promised a blue wave.  Will they be content to blame the Russians again?  It's getting stale.  Will they challenge the legitimacy of every GOP elected?  And, just imagine, shortly after picking up seats in the mid-terms (It is not my prediction, just a what-if scenario), Trump is able to replace a liberal Supreme Court judge.  Heads would explode.  The only way it could get better is if Clinton were indicted.

Again, the above is not my prediction.  But, if these events were to take place, the liberals would come unglued.  Would there be a civil war?  No, I think not.  They would be so thoroughly defeated.  With any luck, they would move to Canada en masse.   They would put together even more liberal candidates.  Eventually, the Blue Dogs would take over the party, and that would be a good thing.

I'm looking forward to these midterms. If the Dems trounce the Repubs and take the houses it is effectively the country's view of Trump. I wonder what the Republicans would then do?
The Repubs are hoping that all people care about is money and in the short-term that is presently looking good. They are hoping that nobody is looking further down the road for the huge bill that is looming.
What they don't understand is that many people care about a lot of other things and money is not their main motivation.
We'll see if common sense and caring trumps greed and selfishness.
Interesting times.

TBH-
Your opening analogy reminded me of a horrible joke - but it's one of those that's so horrible, it's actually funny, you know?  Well, probably not to EVERYONE - and i migrht be able to use it analogously, as well:

As you're no doubt aware, the NFL lost a great deal of money last year from people refusing to buy tickets to the games or get any merch.  As a cost-cutting measure, the owners decided they had to completely rid the league of one team - but on second thought, decided to simply combine two, instead:

The chosen teams?  The Green Bay Packers were to be merged with the Tampa Bay Buccanneers; the new team is to be called the TamPax.  They're only good for one period, and there's no second string.

To me, this sounds exactly like the 'team' the democrats will field this year - they have nothing to run on, no positive accomplishments they can point to, can take no credit for the vastly improved economy, the huge bux flowing back into this country from re-negotiated trade deals, and in short - can't take credit for a damn thing.

Except to be flushed, just the 1 period, no-second-string TamPax.

I am a Packers fan, so naturally the only team worthy of removal from the league is that stain on Lake Michigan, the Chicago Bears. As they've played in recent years I don't think anyone would notice. Same could be said for Cleveland

The party who holds the White House usually uses big in the midterms.  So if the Dems should win it would be the expected outcome, having little to do with Trump’s popularity or lack thereof.  The GOP cares about a lot more than short term money.  It would behoove you to familiarize yourself with their platform rather than opine about things you know nothing about.  As for greed and selfishness, try looking in the mirror for examples of both.
opher goodwin Added Sep 7, 2018 - 12:23pm

Very true, but the degree of the victory counts.  Is it enough to alter control of Congress?  Did they gain more seats than usual or was it less?  Were the winners moderate Dems (like Antonio Delgado here in Ulster County) or Social Democrats (like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over in Bronx County)?

Would have been hilarious on The Liar, and the opportunities, legion, beginning with various Wall St. firms, followed by everyone who bribed her for an audience while she was S.o.S., as well as all those who "donated" to the Foundation set up as a clever way to launder bribes.

Anyone see the "I am Spartacus" shirtshow?  It was funny to watch the Democrats posturing for the mid-terms and Cory Spartacus Booker, in particular, for the 2020 presidential elections.  Spartacus reminds me of some of the posters on the internet.  He didn't read the emails.  All he saw was the title, "Racial Profiling." He assumed he had the smoking gun proving that Kavanaugh was a racist.  It proved the opposite. The dumbarse either never read the emails or failed to comprehend them.  In doing so, he claimed he was releasing classified information, despite being cleared the release the documents the night before.   No longer the bad boy, he had to release classified documents to prove his mettle.  And this guy plans to run for president.  Now I know where FacePalm gets his name.

Leroy >> Anyone see the "I am Spartacus" shirtshow?

I didn't see it live but have read up on it and seen the various clips.  This is all about Cory Booker's run for President in 2020.  It is estimated that no less than 20 to 30 Democrats are already jockeying for position.  And in doing so they have to pander to their nutball base.

As with many, many Democrats, Cory is an empty suit.  Not much to him (kinda like the previous President).  It's all about appearance and show; never about experience, substance or reality.  Unfortunately, lacking a truly free press allows the likes of Booker to get away with %^$% like this.  Cory showing is ass was likely not reported on any of the legacy media networks, or publications.  Except for those of us who put effort into being informed… this never happened.

A Democrat can say or do anything stupid, criminal and other… and know their singular and collective posteriors are covered.

D'OhBama was a deceiver, and people saw through his crap(he was able to steal his second "election," though).  Trump is a straight shooter, far more transparent than D'OhBama ever was, despite his "promises" to the contrary, like the whopper that got him named "Liar of the Year": "If you like your plan, you can keep your plan."

There's not going to be any "blue wave," except maybe as the Tidy-bowl goes buh-bye.  i believe that Trump will keep a majority of Republicans in both houses, maybe even get enough for a super-majority.

i have heard that "internal polls" of democrats confirm this - you know, the REAL ones that tell the truth, instead of the bs peddled to the public - that they already KNOW they're going to lose and lose big in November.  This is why they're going socialism-insane right now.

Just watched a clip of Carrey - a total NWO/OWG sellout - on Maher recently, and he's saying to go full-bore socialist and "stop apologizing" for it.  It's a perfectly insane strategy for perfectly insane people, so Carrey and Maher love and embrace the form of governance directly responsible for over 100 million murders in the 20th century alone, killed by their own government's agents.

Americans are too smart to go for that; many legitimately naturalized citizens FLED here from socialist countries, and will NEVER vote for anyone espousing that bullshit.

"Communism and socialism is [sic] seductive.  It promises us that people will contribute according to ability and receive according to needs.  Everybody is equal.  Everybody has a right to decent housing, decent food and affordable medical care.  History should have taught us that when we hear people talk this stuff -- watch out!"
