The greasy ferrets, they did wander

to that landfill over yon

but they wish they'd have never gone there

for the troubles it did spawn

To a Madame they grew acquainted

with the given name of Kate

and though she was hardly sainted

she was called the fourth estate

Oh she was a wanton harlot

minor chords really made her wet

her letter was clearly scarlet

and she called herself Gazette

They were only buying favor

when fidelity was their need

Ideals? They could not tame her

it took cash to feed her greed

For with so many fellas willing

and not enough holes to fill

Gazette could scoff at a shilling

when there were Johns who'd spend a mill'

But the old girl has a weakness

for a sailor with a whip

So in this hour of bleakness

she's sure to go down with the ship

Burger what is this crazy caper?
To what do you infer?
Is it about a particular paper?
Of truth does it defer?

Burghal,
Are you referring to the Washington Post of Woodward and Bernstein fame, or to the New York Times of anonymous op-ed fame?

Do we know the NYT is telling the truth in claiming the anonymous op-ed writer works within the Trump White House?  Could the NYT be lying (on purpose, this time)?

Just guessin', but it's possible the "Kate" is an allusion to Katherine Graham, previous owner of WaPo.
If so, i didn't know she had a kinky side; was she the wielder or the wanter of the whip?  The objectifier or the object?

Don't matter now, ah s'pose; she daid.

To me, the "new slave" press are obvious.  They're the ones pushing the leftwing narrative, the pushers of the "practical," the narrators of the narrative-du-jour, the props of the pushers(what with their Big Pharma ads), the Horns of the Beast, the mouths of Sauron.  Their owners - mostly international corporate entities - are few, their "opinions" paid for, and any "opposition" to be destroyed - silenced.
Do you have a cogent argument in opposition?  "SHUT UP!" is their rallying cry, for they have no rational defense, emphasis on the "rat" part.
Then, they engage in "tortious interference" with other, alternative news sites - drudge, the daily caller, infowars, even Crowder or Pew-di-pie - just because each of the foregoing gets WAY more traffic than THEY do; they're part of a dying dinosaur breed, but intend to go down fighting, apparently.  Personally, i think they're whimpering, virtually alone in the dark, hardly any but the MOST hypnotized(or captive) audiences bothering to watch any longer.  Eliminate CNN "ratings" calculated through airports, bus/train terminals, hotel lobbies and prisons, and their "viewership" numbers are laughably pathetic - which is, of course, what makes them dangerous; their owners are paying big bux and want results, they want reality shaped the way THEY want it, damn it, fuck all those free thinkers anyway!  Right?

“Did you really think we want those laws observed?”  said Dr. Ferris.  “We want them to be broken.  You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against…we’re after power and we mean it…There’s no way to rule innocent  men.  The only power any government has is to crack down on criminals.  Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them.  One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws.  Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens?  What’s there in that for anyone?  But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted---and you create a nation of law-breakers---and  then you cash in on guilt.  Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand that, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”
-- anyone care to guess who penned the foregoing?

Now, thank's to D'OhBama's Dec 2016 signing of the last NDAA, a month before Trump was sworn in, the New Slave Press is free to print all the lies it wants, in the name of "countering propaganda."  Nice touch, naming the Act that-a-way, eh?  Much like the Shrub's "law" about saving the forests, which did the exact opposite, or the "USA PATRIOT ACT," which legalized violation of the Constitution in an enormous number of distinctly UNpatriotic ways.

But, the true patriots are arising now, slowly from their slumber, breaking all the Lilliputian "laws" which allegedly restrained them - and there WILL be an accounting, for long-established US law states that any and every Unconstitutional law is no law at all.  Don't make me trot out the quotes.  I'll do it, you know...

The Post and the Times are clearly in these cross hairs, but Gazette has seen her better days. Not the sharp and comely Belle of the Ball any more, the lines are showing, rolls of fat now with their own further rolls of fat. The New Slave Press cries for the honor to be laid at their feet as the ideal of a free press, yet they are pretenders. And their pox has infected the new media as well.

It was 1970 when I learned the lesson that EVERYTHING is bullshit. The only change since has been its much worse now than then.

Yes, the Fourth Estate used to at least resemble a well-manicured and maintained manor, but now it's nothing more than a high-density tenement ruled by demogogues, thugs, and whores of all descriptions; whoever has the loudest voice. As I and others have posted here, yellow journalism is alive and well.

When I was young, I was an avid newspaper reader. Wanted to read every editorial. Went to the library, read the weekly news magazines.

Not anymore. I basically read the local news and the comics. That's all. Thank God for the Internet. But that too is being silenced!

So we have the media
To tell us what to think
Just like Wikipedia
Connect to that false link.
Their mission’s just too vital
To tell what really is
So you get recital
And all the mental whiz.
In the end they want your mind
To think things as they do
But you will have to go blind
To believe in all that goo.
It’s nothing more than slant today
That’s what the news became
It’s our nation’s death ballet
I wonder who we blame?

The corporate mainstream media outlets are slaves to the establishment narrative. They even go before congress to get their marching orders. This is why corporate censorship is government censorship. So much for 1st Amendment.

BTW I suck at poetry, so the preceding is all I got. That and a "like" in your general direction.
The Burghal Hidage Added Sep 10, 2018 - 11:36pm
the traditional outlets and government have an arrangement. On Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays (and alternating Sundays) the media whores go to governments house and piss in their pool. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and alternating Sundays government goes over to media's house to swim in their toilet. As long as no one gets their Sundays crossed up everything works fine

Perhaps we need to produce our own media? In the 60s we had underground Press - like IT and OZ.
The Burghal Hidage Added Sep 11, 2018 - 8:48am
there is a lot of that trying to find its way on the internet and this is much of the traditional media's hissy fit. They, like the rest of the establishment, are not letting go of their monopoly without a fight.
The Burghal Hidage Added Sep 11, 2018 - 8:53am
this is why they are injecting themselves where ever they can into this new media. With the giant monopolies established with government sponsorship the price they've paid is to be joined at the hip with the security apparatus of the state. This means that the state has them by the short hairs and the specter of "regulation" is intended to become a reality

He seems to have affection for foot soldiers as well, especially of the Roman sort, apparently believing himself to be the reincarnation of Augustus Caesar.

MEDIA PRESENTATION

Perps and pigs in a deadly dance
and journalists all in a flutter
Elephants and donkeys across the aisle
fighting for guns with butter

It's the current century's opera
Brought to you all of the time
and those who are called the sponsers
are guilty of the crime

Their defense is simple and blunt:
They are giving you what you want
