The Surfs and Their Rulers

I was flying a couple of weeks ago (yes shame on me for polluting) and watched one of the inflight movies. I can't remember the name of it. It was a parody on the lives of 18th century England, the lives of the Queen and her Court and those poor peasants coping with all the rules commanded by the Kingdom.  The Queen is portrayed as a neurotic bumble head, always depressed, always having some kind of physical ailment and totally unable to make rash decisions.  While she lives incredibly well sleeping most of the days away the peasants are starving because they are being taxed to death to support wars against France.  France must be punished for dare going up against England and must agree to an unconditional surrender.

Even though her royal subjects are starving she's being pressured to tax the poor starving peasants even more.  So Court continues to live very well, doing very little, they themselves never thinking to sacrifice for the good of England and the Queen.

So this brings us to our modern day Queen, AOC.  She admonishes the peasants that they must give up their environmental wasting ways.  Yes, Americans should probably learn to use less natural resources.

Her "Green New Deal" would radically change the lives of Americans.  We would be forced to travel less, drive less, consume less, live in smaller spaces, etc.  Again, that may ultimately be a good thing albeit that level of change cannot occur within a 10 year period without itself causing huge environmental damage not to mention plunging the global economy in an abyss never seen.

Setting that aside how does Representative AOC lead the masses, or her peasants?  Let's see. She's been seen flying first class multiple times.  H'm why isn't she taking trains everywhere?  She's living in 2 very large apartments that use larges amounts of electricity. H'm why hasn't she downsized herself? She apparently takes Uber everywhere in NYC.  H'm why isn't she taking the very available NYC subway and bus system?  Or walk?

Because like that movie she see's herself as the Queen and therefore not subject to all of the sacrifices the peasants must endure.  They can live less comfortably to support her noble cause but her, are you kidding?  In fact after the commercial airlines were taken out of business and ordinary Americans were stuck with a patchwork of inefficient trains to get around you can bet Ms. Cortez and her kind would be jetting through the rather empty skies in their private corporate jet, polluting away.

AOC says we should clean up campaign finance.  Yet her own campaign was a hatch of favoritism and questionable practices like one of her Super Pacs hiring her boyfriend for 2 months and paying him $6K.  He subsequently moved to NYC to be near her.  Could have that $6K been moving money?  If what she did wasn't illegal it was certainly sleazy.

AOC by no means is alone with a view they are Kings and Queens and we are the serfs.  They can impose all kinds of measures on us for the "good" yet they will never have to sacrifice.  After all they are the self appointed nobility.  Ms. Cortez took no time to understand how the system works for her and others in Washington DC but not for the peasants that voted for her.

You're never see AOC volunteering with groups that clean up roadways and beaches.  You're never see her living in an energy efficient abode, you're never see her taking a longer but less pollution means of transportation, you're never see her composting.  Because she is the nobility and you are the peasants, or better known as the chumps if you actually support this woman.

The latest has her, along with her campaign manager/chief of staff illegally taking control of the PAC that supported her, violating the laws tha require PACs and campaigns remain separated, and opening contributors to her campaign with significant campaign finance law violations.
Queenie's troubles are just beginning.

Sounds like you saw "The Favourite" on your flight.
AOC seems to be the new boogeyperson of the right; she's not really that important, just one House representative, from a very poor and left-leaning district (that had not previously been well-represented).  She is not a standout nor typical, though I do think that, if she stays the course, she will be worthy of committee leadership in a few years.  I know she's trying hard.   I will take her over Steve King or Rush Limbaugh (comparable counterparts on the other extreme of the spectrum) any day.

She may not be that "important", Jim, but she can bring a lot of people down with her when she goes.
And, that's where the risks to Pelosi and her majority lie.

And once again we have a cult of personality born of the media megaphone. She is not a boogeyman (person?).... There is no incentive to shut her up, hell give her more air time!  Is any of this sounding familiar?

No I don't think this woman dangerous.  I'm sure that most Americans think her an imbecile.  We should remember that most Americans are not the uber crazy intersectional zygotes that the media claims we are.  Most Americans are rational and her ideas are anything but rational.
Even her own party is greatly distancing themselves from her, particularly after her Amazon HQ debacle which she then tried deny her involvement.
Anyone running on her platform in 2020 would lose. Even Donald Trump could easily and coherently described why her Green New Deal would actually reek more havoc on the environment than it would save.  Not to mention the $70 trillion plus price tag.

Most people(including me) have little idea what "intersectional" even MEANS.
Occasionally Cortex is in a crock of crap, and it's getting worse; last info i heard was that she'd named her BF as a staff member, and routed some tens of thousands of bux his way.
Yeah, she's wreaked some havoc, but the seeds she sowed are growing into a nasty harvest for a nasty woman, still wet behind the ears, claiming that "she's the boss" because she came up with these lame-brain ideas.

i re-read, looking for an ocean ref., but couldn't find one; is it possible you meant "serf" instead of "surf"?

The Justice Democrats are just getting started. Even if the organization is broken up in its present form, look for it to do an ACORN and rename and rebrand itself.
George N Romey Added Mar 9, 2019 - 5:21am
Yes it should be serf (autocorrect).
FacePalm Added Mar 9, 2019 - 9:02am
Oh, ok.  Thanks, George.  Just curious - what with the troubles the site is currently experiencing, can you still access your article and use the edit function?  If so "man correct" will work!  *grin*
Yes, AOC - Alexandria Occasionally Cortex - is headed for a major crock o' crap, what with campaign finance violations galore cropping up all over the place.  Of course, a recommend for prosecution will have to come from the Senate, because the House is controlled today by criminal democrats who but RARELY support the prosecution of their own.  But we'll see.
Generally, people with power are quite averse to sharing it, especially with young whippersnappers who think they're "the boss"  while still wet behind the ears.  Could be that Pelosi - despite her public face supporting and excusing AOC and the antisemitic Muslim reps currently in the House, may well throw her dumb ass under the proverbial bus, which is where rebellious upstarts and potential fascists belong.  (you see, she wants to remove "choice" from people, and dictate how they will live - or not.)
Yes, several painful tire marks will teach AOC about the ropes of her oath of office - or get her drummed right the hell out of it.  No one with any sense sits on a hot stove twice.

The same held true for the Obama campaign and accepting foreign donations, not to mention unfettered and free access to facebook data that the Russkies had to pay for ... and nobody was ever held to account. The same will undoubtedly come to pass here so that the dems can retain their holier than thou facet.

Ah, the Trumpist have a New Hillary, AOC, to feed their HHS as chance of Hillary being appointed president after "the Deep State" gets rid of Trump and appoints Hillary, fades...riiiight.  And yeah, Geeho...SERFs up, let's go waterboarding.  LOL  You rightists are a real scream...

Really less than 3 months in office and she's already being hit with ethics violation.  Usually people in DC wait at least a few years before they become crooked.  She is a one hit wonder.  Her ideas have zero chance of being passed into law.  Most of her party will do anything to distance themselves from her.  The city of NYC is pissed off as well as powerful New York state politicians. Do you think Coumo and de Blasio would ever endorse her or fund raise for her.

But now Amazon can easily buy out that little cloud start up you're with, Geeho.  Got a feeling a six figure salary "old man" without a college education can go back to the street, but alas!! Walmart is phasing out greeters.  What will you do for a job, Geeho?
