WriterBeat Site Troubles...

My Recent Posts

Are things going to get any better?

Today, I loaded the site to be greeted with a statement that now articles were available with the sort settings at Recommendations/For the Past hour.  Tried a couple of other setting and found that only the By Submission Date setting displayed any of the sites offering...

And then I tried to log in to comment on an essay...Using my screen name and password, the system logged me in as Max B********...that is when it finally decided to let me log in.

I know Autumn has hired a PHP programmer to help her clear up some of the weep sheet that she has...

The question is becoming whether or not other things are getting broken when the new stuff is added...(If you have custom stuff in PHP this can often happen.)

Autumn, you owe it to your suffering members to tell us of changes and/or fixes that are applied so that we are all aware of what is to be expected...And remember, we can be valuable resources in identifying problems because WE are the ones that use the front end...not you or your programmer.

Patience, my friend!
There is more to life than Writerbeat, Trump, Politics, and blogging.

Add to the woes that it is difficult to delete the duplicate postings...

If you want more traffic, Autumn, fix the problems and fix them fast.

And, sorry, Bill...There is a certain expectation of competence, is there not.

Seems as though you're more interested in second or even third best

The Owl-
Try "save as draft" for the duplicate articles.
You still won't be able to delete them, but at a future point, you'll be able to erase the title and content and replace them with a future article...but in order to get it to actually post, you'll need to "like" it, first.

i suspect this rankles a bit more in your case, because of your offers of help which were not accepted.

I can't post on some but I can post on this one.

All the articles disappeared except for by date submitted.

Yep. But attentive people notice that LOL

BTW: They are still there but not accessible for the moment I guess. That's why I save them all....I mean it's work, no ? ;-)

I think it's AC's foray into Theater of the Absurd, lol.

Work?  Not if you do it for pleasure...

In profile you can see all your articles. Takes some time, depending, but what the hell. As long as we can communicate, it's ok LOL
FacePalm Added Mar 9, 2019 - 9:07am
i'm having trouble with the profile, too.
i can't look back any more than ten pages; i have to start at the end and work my way forward, and even then, it seems to skip about 3 pages at a time...which makes it difficult, especially if you're looking for a specific post.

Doesn't matter, now; the post i wanted to delete was on one of Free Ear Candy's threads, and he took his marbles and went elsewhere when chided by Autumn about his not posting commentary on the work of others.

Oh. I didn't go back as far yet, sorry then for your stuff. Kind of hard for a newbie when there's no articles shown at the front page, anyway.

I didn't know it was such a big problem, I thought maybe Autumn kicked me off her site!

The Owl, what has worked for me is to: press submit once and then leave that page.

I too hope for the best.

I'm sure we can do something. And I'm also sure we can have a lot more traffic. I've been proposing ever since to make WB more international by adding languages such as German, French or Spanish. I have a large African follower base on LI, and I think it would be a good thing to get some of them on board. Kind of ....  getting news from real experts and not from MSM hearsay. What d'ya think ?

Hah! This one is the "master" thread about the current problems! I'll copy the comment I just made on another of the Owl's copies of it...

Yes, the sort by recommendations main page isn't working, it doesn't show any articles at all. It hasn't worked for me since Thursday morning UK time. On a couple of occasions I also got a message saying it couldn't store some session files, perhaps because the disk was full.

I thought the site had gone down completely, but at least new articles seem to be visible...

What is baffling is Autumn silence.
George N Romey Added Mar 10, 2019 - 3:57pm
Yes, I understand Autumn's desire to get comments.  Most of the big sites it's hard to get noticed or even make comments.  However, comments alone a good writing site doesn't make.  While we have a few good writers here Autumn has never bothered to foster and encourage well reasoned and written articles of various opinions.  Instead it's mostly people coming on WB with nonsensical poorly written rants. The rants usually get rant comments.  They write their one hit wonder rants never to be seen again.  None of this bodes well for a good site, particularly one that could become commercially viable.

I've always contended that if there is good content the comments will follow, as long as the method of commenting is easy, transparent and visible.  WB is like worrying about egg production and no thought about the chickens.  Autumn should be taking the methods of Minds.com but adding to that a way in which comments are part of the discussion and authors can get more easily recognized.  Just ragging on someone to make comments is a recipe for eventual failure.

Owl-
Yes, her silence is certainly baffling.
Either she is out of the game, or waiting to make sure the new alternative is as flawless as possible.
George-
Your correct-
A site full of rants pretty much creates just constant mud-slinging as we have seen more of out here lately.
FacePalm Added Mar 11, 2019 - 8:06pm
i had considered writing to her, as i - and probably everyone posting here - have her email, but i surmised she'd already be flooded with email, so let her alone.

No doubt there's much going on behind the scenes, maybe some raging at the programmer who was supposed to fix things, only to make them worse...and threats of lawsuits or whatever.  Who knows?

Glad we can still post, for now, and glad others are considering creating an alternative.

We're on it as you know. And we're getting to it.
George N Romey Added Mar 15, 2019 - 2:14pm
I think the "programmer" has been her brother-who apparently bailed some time ago.  From what I've gathered it's all been Autumn, including financial resources, keeping WB going.  I believe that WB could be modestly commercial viable (as much as any blog could be).  Few writing sites offer such visibility, ease of use and the ability to join into a discussion. I just believe to get a wider audience you need lots of good material.  Comments will follow as long as they are visible and accessible.

She may be dealing with some kind of life situation.  Give her time.

See my suggestion, above...

It does work and it doesn't cost much to implement.
